Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray recognized the members of Team Europe after opening the Laver Cup match. In the third singles match at the Laver Cup on Friday, Murray defeated Team World’s Alex de Minaur.
Throughout the match, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic were giving Murray tips and encouraging him to keep up the pressure. Murray fell in the final as D Minaur won 5-7 6-3 10-7. “I was in a good position at times and I was getting encouragement from them,” Murray said of the tennis majors.
“Of course you listen to — I mean, these are some of the best minds in the game. I think that’s something people probably don’t talk to them enough about — the tennis IQ and their understanding of the game and the moments and the matches and how to play and learn things when you’re out there.
Murray on Federer’s last night
In Friday’s final in London, Federer took on Nadal in the final. The O2 Arena was sold out for Federer’s final and the atmosphere was absolutely electric.
Murray, who is playing in the Laver Cup this week, sat on the bench and supported Federer and Nadal, but eventually fell to Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe in 3 sets. “This opportunity and being a part of this team was special.
It was sitting or standing to watch my team and Bjorn Borg to support you. With all the guys on the bench, it was great and a memory I’ll cherish for a long time,” Murray said.
Murray, Nadal and Novak Djokovic were part of Federer’s final. Murray relished the experience and it was certainly special to see Federer travel to the final with a team from the Big Four.
