Chelsea’s new owners have sacked head coach Thomas Tuchel three months after taking over the club.
Tuchel’s 100th and final game in charge of Chelsea came in Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League defeat by Dinamo Zagreb. Sources told ESPN that Tuchel, 49, was informed of the decision on Wednesday morning.

Brighton’s Graham Potter, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino and former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane are Chelsea’s main candidates to replace Tuchel, sources have told ESPN.
A consortium led by LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Bohly and Clearlake Capital bought the club from Roman Abramovich at the end of May and managed a record £250m spend on nine players in one window for Chelsea.
However, sources have told ESPN that the relationship between Bohli and Tuchel has created a strain on the club’s transfer strategy, with further concerns about the team’s subpar start to the season leading to the ownership interest.
Members of the club’s backroom will take temporary charge as the search for Tuchel’s replacement begins, possibly also for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Fulham.
A club statement read: “The club would like to go on record on behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC to thank Thomas and his staff for their efforts during his time with the club. Thomas would later have a place in Chelsea history. During his time here, he won the Champions League, the Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
“With the new ownership team 100 days into the club and working hard to take the club forward, the new owners believe the time is right to make this transition.
“As the club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach, Chelsea’s coaching staff will lead the squad in training and preparation for our upcoming matches.
There will be no comment until a new head coach has been named.
Tuchel was appointed as Frank Lampard’s successor in January 2021 and led Chelsea to their second Champions League title in May of the same year.
In February, he led Chelsea to victory over Palmeiras in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, marking the only trophy Abramovich has previously missed out on in his 19-year Club Cup career.

However, as Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea after the UK government imposed sanctions over his ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Tuchel has come under severe pressure from the club’s public image.
Tuchel led the club through a difficult period on the pitch when the Boyley/Clairlake combination were in talks to buy the club.
However, the sources who stated that there were disagreements about the club’s transfer strategy, said that Tuchel’s message did not get through to the players and many of them were upset with the approach.
The defeat in Zagreb was their third successive away defeat, the first under Tuchel. The club has won 3 of its 6 games in the Premier League and is in sixth place.
“I’m really disappointed,” Tuchel said after the loss in Zagreb. There is so much to analyze, I am part of it, and we are clearly not where we need to be. It’s all gone now.
