John Daly was asked to throw out the first pitch for the host city’s St. Louis Cardinals home team ahead of this week’s event on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, and he did so: he went to the mound. He turned to home plate and hit 72 on the gun while he was still a walk-on, wearing shorts and sandals.
But either she won’t do it for you or if you want to hear something else wonderful, she’s got Dali’s extras.
Only seven players shot a four-under 67 in the first round of the Ascension Charity Classic on Friday. But Dali was hurt.
This was his conversation with reporters after his enthronement. We’ll let him take over.
“John, before the round started, you were even thinking about playing, right?
“Yes, yes. I don’t really want to talk about it, but L-2, I guess I pinched it yesterday at number 2,” Daly began. “The pro-am was really long and I waited and drove and the L-2 kind of goes to your private parts and I’ve been hurting ever since.
“I mean, the guys reached out and gave me a pill to take. It hasn’t happened to me since I kicked a football with him when we played at Helias. It is a lot of water and a little rest.
“Can you elaborate on the exact damage?”
Before doing it here, we will share this. The website Healthline.com defines L2 this way: “The L2 vertebra is located in the lower curve of the spine, and the part of the vertebra it protects is known as the lumbar spine. Damage to this area can cause nerve damage, loss of sensation in the lower extremities, and problems with walking and mobility. And Dali is an honest man.
“Your L-2 to your… [nods]”
“And I pulled a muscle in and it went to mine [grunts]” said Daly. “I feel like somebody kicked me in the n***s, is that what I want to say? Yeah, it’s been like that since I played the pro-am yesterday. I was sore last night, so I saw the guys this morning and it stretched me out a little bit. It was brutal.”
“How did he feel all day?”
“I was very careful sitting on the golf cart. Let’s put it down.”
In summary, Daly is playing against the best players in the world over 50, is just two shots off the lead and has done so in over the top fashion. That’s interesting to say the least.
Before leaving the interview venue at Norwood Hills Country Club, Daly had one final back-and-forth.
“What are you going to do for the rest of the day, just rest, go somewhere and sit?”
“I go to Hooters and have wings and drink a pitcher of Miller Lite,” said Daly, who is also an employee at the restaurant.
“That would be perfect.”
