One thing is for sure, the Kentucky Wildcats are going to have one of the best recruiting classes in 2023.
The question is whether they will have the No. 1 overall player as part of that class.
The Class of 2023 is tough when it comes to placing a player at No. 1 overall. Before Kentucky target DJ Wagner moved on to 2022 and left for South Carolina, Gigi Jackson held the top spot for most of the time except for a brief stint.
As we get closer to the ranks of the revised Class of 2023, it’s getting harder to zero in on a clear No. 1 overall player.
Travis Branham of 247Sports decided to gather some college coaching thoughts on the players he spent all summer watching and evaluating.
The question is, who is the best prospect in the 2023 class?
With Kentucky committed and some targets getting votes from the coaches to take over the top spot, it’s no surprise.
Kentucky commit and current No. 2 overall pick Justin Edwards, tied with Xavier Booker for the 5th most votes among coaches with both players receiving 4 votes.
Aaron Bradshaw is the next highest vote-getter to become the new No. 1 overall player with five coaches saying he’s the best prospect they’ve seen.
DJ Wagner is the season’s No. 1 overall player, but with 10 votes, he finished second among coaches asked to be the top player in the updated rankings.
As for the player with the most votes, it went to Duke commit Mackenzie Mgbako who edged out Wagner by 11 votes.
As you can see, the 2023 class is very difficult to rank, and even the coaches who watched the players over the winter can’t agree on who is the best player in the class.
