NASCAR driver salutes fallen officer Monetta firefighter

DARLINGTON, SC – NASCAR driver Kyle Weatherman honored a fallen Cayce police officer and Monetta volunteer firefighter.

In Saturday’s Xfinity Series race, the No. 34 car was assigned to Drew Barr.

The racecar displayed the bar’s name written above the window.

Barr lost his life on April 24 while working as a police officer in Cairns. After responding to a domestic disturbance call, the suspect fired the gun and killed him.

The suspect died seven hours later, police said.

Barr has been a firefighter in Monetta since he was 15 years old.

Barr was never married and had no children, but he left behind his mother, father and older sister.

Many who knew Barr in Aiken County say he was devoted to helping and serving others.
