TOKYO (AP) — Reigning champion Naomi Osaka withdrew from the Pan Pacific Open before her second-round match due to illness on Thursday.
“I am very disappointed that I will not be able to compete today,” Osaka said in a statement. “It’s an honor to be able to play in front of the amazing fans here in Japan at the Torai Pan Pacific Open. This is a special race for me and always will be and I wish I could go on the court, but my body won’t let me. See you next year.
