Daniil Medvedev enters week 11 of world no. 1. After skipping Wimbledon, the Russian returned to action in Los Cabos eager to find his A-game after saving a lot of points while rocking hard courts in North America.
Daniel is yet to win his first major crown following last year’s US Open. He will remain on the ATP throne next week and tie Boris Becker in 12 weeks, but things could get tougher for him on August 15.
Medvedev will face Los Cabos in the finals or the quarterfinals of the Canadian Masters against world no. 1 before Alexander Zverev. The German is out through injury and the Russian will remain in front if he collects the Los Cabos quarter-finals and the third round at the Canadian Masters.
This shouldn’t be the problem, but Daniel at the end of the year no. 1 war in the remaining months. Medvedev has lost all three ATP finals, including his 2022 Australian Open encounter against Rafael Nadal.
He is currently ranked sixth in the ATP rankings, 3000 points behind Nadal. Daniil understands that it will be difficult to catch Rafa for the rest of the year, and the Spaniard will end the year no. 1 favorite. Medvedev is 1500 points ahead of Nadal in the ATP rankings.
Still, Rafa has no points to defend for the rest of the season after missing the second leg of 2022 due to injury.

Medvedev has to defend 5000 points for the rest of the season, he has a big job ahead of him, finishing his first year at no. 1 glory. “I’m looking at the No. 1 fight a little bit. It depends on what point you look at it.
Still, unless I try to win all the remaining tournaments in 2022, Rafael Nadal is the year-end no. 1. On the other hand, if I do everything right during the swing in North America, I can keep it for a long time.
