RB Leipzig parted ways with coach Domenico Tedesco on Wednesday following their poor start to the Bundesliga season and a 4-1 defeat at home to Shakhtar Donetsk.
Shakhtar came to Leipzig with a weakened squad, having lost most of their overseas players following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but the team scored four of their five shots on goal.
Tedesco took over in December last year and helped them climb from 11th place to fourth place and into the Champions League. He also led them to the German Cup, their first major trophy.

However, the team has managed to win one of their 5 league games in the Bundesliga, including last week’s 4-0 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt.
The club’s chief executive, Oliver Mintzlaff, said: “We believe that a mid-term Bundesliga season with five points from five games, including defeats to Eintracht and Shakhtar, is the right course of action to make a change in management soon.” he said in a statement.
Leipzig will play Freiburg at the top of the league, Borussia Dortmund, on Saturday before traveling to Real Madrid next Wednesday.
