Wisconsin, the reigning Big Ten regular-season champion, enters the 2022-23 college basketball season looking to replace a large crop of products and coach Gard, in his eighth year at the helm, working to exceed preseason expectations.
Gone are Johnny Davis (NBA), Brad Davison (graduation) and the top three backups from last season – so minutes appear to be up for grabs across the board.
UW has returned 41.1% of its scoring, 46.5% of its rebounding, 50.1% of its assists, and 37.6% of its three games from last season.
Thankfully, Coach Gard returns a solid core to build the team, including Chucky Hepburn, Tyler Wahl and Steven Crowe, and others who have been patiently waiting for their chance to make an impact.
Offseason additions Max Klesmit and Kamari McGee both figure to play meaningful roles for the Badgers from day one, and newcomer Connor Esejian hopes to work his way into the mix as a sharpshooter as a true freshman.
After playing sparingly last season, Jordan Davis, Jacoby Neath, Carter Gilmore, Marcus Ilver and Isaac Lindsay are pushing for expanded roles in 2022-23.
John Rothstein, who writes for College Hoops Today, recently published his Big Ten season breakdowns, which reveal his power rankings for the upcoming season.
