Teddy Atlas had some choice words for Anthony Joshua this week, calling the Briton’s career into question and claiming he was overrated by fans in England.
Speaking on his podcast about the fight against Teddy Atlas, the former trainer’s words won’t find a place on Joshua’s Christmas card list anytime soon.
“With all due respect, fans in the UK love a good loser.
He [Joshua] He won the championship by defeating Charles Martin, who was not on anyone’s list of greatest fighters. He was an extravagant man.
I can’t be clearer or give you a better reason – who won?”
Atlas’ scathing comments come two weeks after AJ’s second straight loss to Oleksandr Usyk in Jeddah, where, despite an improved performance in the eyes of many, Joshua failed to regain the unified heavyweight title.
Machrum’s boss Eddie Hearn has long believed that Joshua has the best record in the heavyweight division, but Atlas points to the 32-year-old’s losing streak as a reason for his belief.
“I’ll say it again – who did he beat? He lost – and he lost by knockout. Well, the last two to Usyk, he was injured, he lost by decision – he showed heart. But he lost to Rice who took the fight in the last minute!
I believe Joshua is always overrated – but he can bring in big bucks.
Atlas’ comments were considered harsh by many, especially as Joshua avenged his loss to Ruiz and Oleksandr Usyk was unanimously recognized as one of the best fighters in all of sports.
Anthony Joshua’s potential fight with Tyson Fury has reached a fever pitch again – earlier this week, fury’s social media call for AJ’s call for a meeting in the UK reached a fever pitch again. December.
